Culture and Country Life in Ireland

County Meath

In the original Gaelic divisions of Ireland Meath (An MhĂ) was Mide, ‘the Middle Kingdom’, and one of five provinces. The seat of the high kings until the 6th century, Meath was a fairly heavy hitter in Irish affairs. As home of the legendary High Kings of Ireland, this rich vast land is known as the Emerald Isle. In this northeastern county you will witness the beauty of the green pastures Ireland is famous for and you will certainly feel as though you are away from it all in the enchantingly relaxed pace of Meath. The nice thing about this area is it is about a half hours drive from Dublin, so if you like you can experience both city and country on your travels.

One can explore this Royal County on foot, on horseback or even hot-air ballooning. There is much to sightsee as in myth-rich Celtic hill forts or just a 5 mile stroll down The Boyne Ramparts walk with an organic picnic is a great way to spend a day. Don't leave without putting your moneydown as this area is famous for the thouroughbred racing such as Bellewstown and Fairyhouse the home of The Irish Grand National. Other interesting activities we suggest would be clay pigeon shooting at Rathe House, off roading, horeseback riding, or rafting. As for art and culture traditional Irish music and dance is abundant it is easy to catch a formal performance or even an informal pub gig.
