Belize Epiphany

Usually when we decide to go on a vacation it means traveling to a place we have always wanted to go. It may also mean luxuriating on a beautiful beach, exploring great museums or discovering hidden corners of famous cities. Hopefully for most of us traveling will always be a new experience by meeting some new people, experiencing a new culture and in turn, sharing a bit about yours along the way.

However, it’s that unexpected experience, the one that “brings” about a life change, the one that added a deeper more significant meaning to the word travel. This wonderful story is what it’s all about for me:

A few years ago I booked clients to a deluxe jungle lodge in Belize. My clients met a boy working there who “touched our hearts” with his energy and intelligence. They talked it over and decided he was too bright to “be making beds for the rest of his life” so they arranged to pay for his high school education – tuition, uniforms, books, etc.

They have just returned from a second trip to Belize where they attended the boy’s high school graduation!

Travel can, indeed, ennoble.
